E-Learning Design

E-learning uses electronic technology to support and deliver training. Originally, this type of course would have been just internet or web based. Today, we have delivery via stand alone computers as well as mobile phones and PDAs.

E-learning can take place in conventional classrooms where learners and tutors are physically present. However, it is more commonly used within a teaching model where tutors and learners are separated by time and/or space.

The types of staff training that adapt well to the online environment include:

  • Induction programmes
  • Compliance training
  • Continuing professional development (CPD)

What do you need to consider?

When thinking about designing e-learning, you need to consider much more than the actual content. E-learning and online training need to create a rich learning environment that encourages and challenges the learner, and caters to a wide range of learning styles. So the package will consist of:

  • the delivery system you use e.g. Internet, interactive DVD, CDRom/stand alone computer, mobile phone
  • appropriate educational techniques that assist the learner to process the new information being presented, and lead to effective learning occurring; for example, the use of scenarios, simulations and multimedia interactivities
  • media you blend together - this includes the video, audio, graphics and text used to present the content and drive the learning.

If this is your first step into the e-learning world or you’d just like more information about developing effective e-learning materials, contact us. A member of our team will be happy to talk you.
