Self-Paced Training

Self-paced training is all about letting the trainee decide when and where they will learn.

In some circumstances the learning is totally initiated and directed by the learner - for example, Abobe and Microsoft offer many free, self-paced modules for their software products.

In other circumstances, the learner may be directed to a particular course (for example, for professional development associated with their job). However, once enrolled, how long they have to complete the course is not a controlling factor. There are no set dates for assessments, and the nature of the course material means that the learner can usually access it from anywhere.

Today, with the use of e-learning and learning management systems to track a student’s progress (and even administer assessment), the provision of self-paced learning has become even easier.
